Sibling Rivalry

Two boys two boys
I call them my sons
One hits the other
and quickly he runs

One son is bigger
the other quite small
but neither is able
to quit and stand tall

As siblings they fight
they use hurtful names
they can't seem to stop
their jealousy games

He started it dad
He said this and then
you never quite see
the way things begin

So each is at fault
each gets your word
and you pray that they listened
and the lecture was heard

When will it stop
this rivalry sibling
where the trivial things
cause all their quibbling

At 13 and 11
they act quite their age
and pride is the center
of much of their rage

I feel as they grow
and mature with each year
they'll realize they're brothers
and get it in gear

A little brother should
know where to look
big brother shouldn't have
to feel his left hook

Big bro is protector
and the small one must see
that fighting each other
is not how it should be

I know that my son's
are not so unique
brother's fight all the time
to see who is weak

Love is what's really
found in their hearts
and that's what they should feel
before fighting starts

I'm waiting it out
and trying to cope
giving advice while reaching
for the end of my rope

I think time is the key
and to never surrender
when things get chaotic
and they spin like a blender

They'll come to themselves
as all brothers do
and that's when the fighting

will forever be through
