What if someone falsely accused you of something or slandered your character? Would you go about on a campaign to prove your innocence? Would you remain calm and quiet and not react to the situation? Would you confront the accuser in an attempt to call him or her out? Would you be assertive or passive?
What would a spiritual person do? How would you want to demonstrate your place in this world when confronted with the actions of individuals with their own selfish agenda?
It is imperative we maintain our integrity and let the flow of life take it's course as it will. The true flow of life is God's will. When we act out of the flow we demonstrate our natural need to take control of the situation and that represents the flesh attempting to circumvent the flow and gain an outcome on it's own time. Things happen in Gods time or they don't happen at all. To force an outcome invites variables into your life like the opinions some may have regarding your behavior. Are you making a scene? Are you showing yourself in a bad light?
If you have been wrongly accused of something (or even if you feel sorely misunderstood), know that God knows. He not only knows; He has the power to make the truth known. Let Him fight this battle for you. Let Him expose the finger-pointers. No amount of convincing, arguing or cajoling another party to believe you can do the work that simple prayer can do.
Yes, we should be responsible enough to try to clear the air. After that, the battle is the God's.
I have been misunderstood on many occasions and in my younger years my instinct was to do all I could to explain my position and my innocence regarding what ever I was experiencing. Over time and over the years I have come to realize it is not my job to play convincer or counselor and win my case. My job as a spiritual man is to maintain my integrity of character and my bearing based on the teaching and example of Christ and those in the scripture who endured the persecution of their beliefs. I must let the world be the world and the flesh be the flesh but I must also remain in the spirit.
When I look at the scripture it is obvious to look to Christ and his experience in his final days as a way to represent our faith in God. But another person of note would be Joseph. He endured the false accusation of the Potiphers wife and stayed true to his faith in God that what would be was in the hands of the Lord. Matthew Henry's commentary regarding this states " It is no new thing for the best of men to be falsely accused of the worst of crimes, by those who themselves are the worst of criminals. It is well there is a day of discovery coming, in which all shall appear in their true characters. "(Ge 39:19-23)

13 When she saw that he had left his cloak in her hand and had run out of the house, 14 she called her household servants. “Look,” she said to them, “this Hebrew has been brought to us to make sport of us!He came in here to sleep with me, but I screamed. 15 When he heard me scream for help, he left his cloak beside me and ran out of the house.”
16 She kept his cloak beside her until his master came home. 17 Then she told him this story: “That Hebrew slave you brought us came to me to make sport of me. 18 But as soon as I screamed for help, he left his cloak beside me and ran out of the house.”
19 When his master heard the story his wife told him, saying, “This is how your slave treated me,” he burned with anger. 20 Joseph’s master took him and put him in prison, the place where the king’s prisoners were confined."
Joseph endured much but his faith was steadfast in God and in the end he was vindicated in a way that served it's purpose for good for not only Joseph but also for many. "You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives." Genesis 50:20
We must above all remain true to who we are and not venture outside of the flow of life. That flow that gives us the pure and good experience of God's will. Perhaps this situation is not entirely focused on you but also an experience God has intended for the accuser and he does not need our interjection into the flow for his desired outcome. Our only concern is are we being good and faithful stewards to God's Divine purpose? Are we remaining as peaceful examples of God's Holy Spirit? Are we showing the fruit of the Spirit? Are we being patient in allowing God to have his way with what is occurring?
The fruit of the Spirit is who we should be in all things. 22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,23 gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. Galatians.
We need not worry about this attempt to falsely portray us as someone other than who we are. "Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. 7 Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus." Philippians.
The scripture is there for us. It tells us how to be. It tells us to remain calm and know God is in charge.
Remember the words of Job when he was faced with the ultimate challenge of his faith. "But he knows the way that I take; when he has tested me, I will come forth as gold." Job 23:10
So recognize the test of your character. See it as an opportunity to demonstrate your faith. Use it as a way to give more of your life to God. Let it give you the strength to persevere and be patient in letting the flow and purpose of your life move for you and with you.
Pray for the understanding in what to do and what to say when the opportunity comes. Be in the Spirit. Always.
