Above the fray

Someone comes
and imposes their will
it isn't right
but even still

they move along
and still persist
and your first reaction
is to resist

this thing you did
you know it's wrong
they've heard before
a familiar song

so they sing right back
and make you feel
they're either dumb
or cold as steel

You explain to them
just what they did
but they never listen
oh God forbid

So after a while
you come to see
you're wasting time
and time ain't free

So you handle the mess
and do your thing
that's when they call
and your cell phone rings

They state their case
and resemble a fool
but argue you won't
it isn't cool

to be drawn in
and act as they
because self control
will have it's say

Always act
like you did before
with calmness and reason
and not much more

It elevates you
above the fray
and things work out
in God's own way.
